Blues in town 2008
The 2008 edition of the Lucanian festival was marked by a return to the origins, where the sounds of the blues are less contaminated, remembered for the performances of internationally renowned artists who have captured the attention of the large audience present and industry critics.
The five-year anniversary of the Blues in Town kermesse, conceived by the polycorese cultural association “La Mela di Odessa”, marked last year, on the regional and national territory, the confirmation and maturity of an event capable of generating a new and modern cultural heritage for the city of Policoro.

To open the curtain, between the arches and the pyramid of the historic Piazza A. Segni, was the performance of Matthew Lee, a very young Rock’n’Roll singer and pianist, who at the age of twenty-five entered the panorama of the most complete musicians . Defined by the press as “the genius in the footsteps of Jerry Lee Lewis”, the artist from Pescara, lent to TV on numerous occasions, gave the audience an unforgettable show in its particularity

The second evening of BiT ’08 was dedicated to the vocal power and unmistakable style of Gail Muldrow & The Funkin’Blues Baby One.
It was easy for her to recall, thanks to a furious and robust voice, that of Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin.

Eugene Hideaway Bridges Band, son of the legendary blues guitarist Hideaway Slim, opened the third night of the festival.
Musician defined by international critics as the only true heir of B.B. King.

“Diabolical” guitarist, very fast on the six strings Rudy Rotta, protagonist of the fourth evening of Blues in Town.
An Italian bluesman with an extraordinary talent recognized in the Olympus of the best blues artists at an international level.

Keith B Brown concludes the fifth edition of Blues in Town. Flawless performer of the “Delta Blues” devoted to respecting the most ancient traditions, without denying himself jazz and folk contaminations. Multifaceted artist, protagonist of the film produced by Martin Scorsese “The Soul Of A Man”, by Wim Wenders.
collateral activities
As per tradition, great importance was dedicated to free afternoon seminars, a free moment in which different genres and musical paths meet thanks to the contributions of masters and professionals who have given life to very pleasant jam sessions. In memory of his friend “Franky DJ”, a young promise who tragically passed away, the DJ mixing technique course was introduced for the first time last year.
First time, during the BiT 2008, also for the photo contest “A shot of Blues”. An opportunity to promote and enhance local music and cultural heritage through images.
BLUES IN TOWN
The Blues in Town is popular poetry, the manifestation of a feeling, the story of a people that transforms itself into the history of all times, wearing the clothes of a universal language, that of emotions in music notes.
So “La Mela di Odessa” wants to pay homage to this refined, soft and velvety music, born from the intimate relationship between man and life!
